There are many classical orchestras globally, and many of these have long and successful histories. Listed here are a number of the largest, and most prominent classical orchestras on the globe presently.

New York Philharmonic
The New York Philharmonic is based in The Big Apple. The orchestra is based in Avery Fisher Hall, in the Lincoln Center. It was founded in the year 1842 and had its fourteen thousandth live show in the year 2004. Alan Gilbert is the philharmonic’s current music director and Matthew VanBesien is the orchestra’s Executive Director. The orchestra performed in Pyongyang in 2009 having been asked by the government of North Korean. This was the very first national visit to North Korea from the US since the end of the war.

Oxford Philomusica
The Oxford Philomusica is headquartered in Oxford and was launched in the year 1998. It has been dubbed ‘excellent’ by Gramophone Magazine and ‘Thoroughly impressive’ by BBC Music Magazine. This reputation has come about mainly as a consequence of extremely high requirements of founder and music director, Marios Papadopoulos. Since 2002, the orchestra has been Oxford University’s first orchestra in residence. Professor Roger Ainsworth is on the advisory council and Bruno Wang and Elena Ambrosiadou are trustees of the project. Community and education work is a large part of the Philomusica and it was awarded the Oxford Times charity and community honor in the year 2007 to recognise its community work.

Vienna Philharmonic
This orchestra has been around for upwards of a hundred and seventy years , and during this time they have employed many outstanding music artists, such as Richard Wagner who called the group among the ‘most spectacular across the globe’ in addition to Anton Bruckner who said it was a ‘most outstanding musical body’. Currently Rainer Kuchl is the concertmaster along with Rainer Honeck and Volkhard Steude. Hubert Kroisamer is the lead violinist. In the year 2005 the Philharmonic of Vienna was named ambassador of goodwill for the WHO.

Berlin Orchestra
Berlin Orchestra has had three directors throughout the last couple of decades, which include Claudio Abbado, Herbert Von Karajan and current principal director and artistic director, Sir Simon Rattle. He was selected as chief conductor in 2002 and his aim has been to convert the orchestra into an essentially European Orchestra. He prefers a transparent sound and concentrates on traditional Viennese Classicism. Some of the key members include people like Lead Violin Concertmaster Noah Menaix-Balgley, First Principal Cello Buno Delepelaire and Lead Oboist, Jonathan Kelly. The orchestra is financed by Berlin city in partnership with Deutsche Bank.
